“I have a job!”
Unless you’ve heard it for yourself, it is hard to imagine the pride behind that statement, when it comes from one of our H.E.A.R.T. trainees.
The goal of the H.E.A.R.T Program is to give these young workers the skill sets necessary to earn a living. We have built a solid work-training curriculum around the placement and servicing of vending machines.
We have found that as a tool for teaching and developing job skills, vending machines, and all that is required to run a successful vending operation, offer incredible potential to these very special Houstonians. The skills required include:
- Sorting by identifying sizes, shapes, colors and names
- Inventory skills such as counting, batching and tallying
- Sanitizing and labeling drink cans
- Customer service and interaction
- Loading and unloading machines carefully to ensure proper product vending
- Basic machine service and repair
- Beginning cash handling, including cash collection, sorting and counting
- Mentoring and supervision by advanced trainees
Once they have mastered these skills within the training portion of our program, trainees are ready to begin earning a paycheck by going on our staff-supervised service runs.
